According to KHON Channel 2 News, Kamehameha Schools, owner of several land parcels in this neighborhood, has “hired Architects Hawaii to design the renovation of 680 Ala Moana Boulevard and plans to complete construction by the end of 2012″. 

The Kakaako area is best described as located just past the Ala Moana Shopping Center as you are headed toward the Airport from Waikiki.  Noted for the Ward Center Retail areas as well as Restaurant Row, this neighborhood will continue to benefit from one of the most interesting Master Plans developed within the city of Honolulu seen in quite some time.

New Tenant, Delay in Kakaako Development

According to the “Pacific Business Journal”, nearly three years after former tenant CompUSA closed up shop at 604 Ala Moana Blvd., the Land Lessor finally found a new tenant, AutoMart USA.

So, that means any redevelopment of the site will be dealyed at lest two years, and not before the middle of 2013 at the earliest.

Land Use Plan for Kakaako Land Parcel Nearly Finalized

According to the Honolulu “Star Advertiser” newspaper, after nearly three years of hard work by State and City planners, aided by public input, a plan appears to be shaping up for how to use roughly 36.5 acres of mostly undeveloped land in the Kewalo Basin area of Kakaako.

On October 28th, the plan will be unveiled during a workshop presented at the Hawaii Convention Center.
