My Favorite Honolulu Neighborhoods:  Pacific Heights

The Pacific Heights neighborhood is perfectly perched above downtown Honolulu and is an interesting mix of old and new homes, many with ocean and harbor views. Overlooking Punchbowl crater and downtown Honolulu, the average elevation is roughly 400 feet. This is another popular area since it’s such an easy commute to and from work downtown.

My Favorite Honolulu Neighborhoods:  St. Louis in the Diamond Head Region

St. Louis Heights is another neighborhood that has some of the most amazing views of the city of Honolulu. The hills in this neighborhood are steep, with elevations reaching a thousand feet. Many homes are located on these steep hillsides, many perched or cantilevered to take advantage of such spectacular views.

This is a very popular area, with many homes selling quickly and at or very near asking prices. One of the big attractions, aside from views, is its close proximity to downtown Honolulu.

My Favorite Honolulu Neighborhoods: Hawaii Loa Ridge, in the Diamond Head Region

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

My Favorite Honolulu Neighborhoods:  Hawaii Loa Ridge, in the Diamond Head Region

Hawaii Loa Ridge is 20 minutes east of Wakiki and 5-10 minutes from Kahala Mall, a large indoor shopping complex. Located on P’uu Ikena Drive east of Aina Haina, it is anextremely exclusive community. The ocean is less than five minutes away from Hawaii Loa Ridge, and the world famous Kahala Mandarin Hotel, Waikiki Beach, and Ala Moana Shopping Center aren’t much further away. This community is highly luxurious and consequently one of the most expensive areas with many homes having absolutely amazing ocean views.

This gated community is popular among celebrities who choose to live in Hawaii Loa Ridge because of the privacy and security. All properties are single family homes built under the guideline of a View Channel. You’ll find a private park, tennis courts, and club house for residents here as well.

Developed in the early 1980′s, it quickly was a sell out. As a result, eight additional developments further and further up the ridge were built. To say the views from the ridge are absolutely sensational would be an understatement. Most of the more than 500 homes were built to taking full advantage of the view channel guidelines and many have Diamond Head, Koko Head, Koko Crater and panoramic ocean views.

The average 3,000 to 4,000 square foot home on the Hawaii Loa Ridge today will cost in the $1,500,000 to $2,200,000 range while a select number of homes have been sold for double these values.

My Favorite Honolulu Neighborhoods: Manoa

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

My Favorite Honolulu Neighborhoods: Manoa

Manoa Valley, home to the University of Hawaii, is a gorgeous lush green suburban neighborhood in the heart of Honolulu, close to downtown Honolulu and Ala Moana. One of the nicest areas near town, the area offers lots of charm, has a bit of a tropical feel, as well as above average rains, due to it’s higher elevation.

Manoa homes are typically older, some with classic, tudor or Victorian architecture and many are on larger lots with huge trees and lush mountain views. A few homes on the upper edges of the valley, on the hillsides, have lovely city and ocean views.

Technically, there are three areas of Manoa, Manoa Area, Manoa – Lower and Moanoa – Upper.
