Great New Ocean View Listing at Ilikai Apartmentsilikai apartments, West Waikiki

Do you remember the Hawaii 5-0 TV show? Ilikai gained fame as the location where Jack Lord stood on the penthouse lanai for the opening credits of Hawaii Five-O, a popular television series. The Ilikai is a favorite among locals and visitors. It’s oceanfront, directly front the Alai Boat Harbor, with easy access to the Yacht Clubs and boat slips. Hilton Hawaiian Village is next door. There is a beautiful lobby, recreational floor and pool area that was completely remodeled with a walkway from the upper level recreation deck to Hilton Hawaiian Village lagoon next door and the beach.

The Ilikai Apartments are a Fee Simple hotel/condominium. The building is a 30 stories high-rise. There are 1,011 units in studio, one bedroom/one bath and two bedroom/two bath configuration. Radiating design permits most units to have full or partial views of either the ocean or mountains. Amenities include 2 swimming pools, 3 tennis courts, fitness center and recreation area.

Please Note: This is not my listing, but I can show this property to you, as well as others in the building or elsewhere, and represent you as a buyer. The listing Broker for this property is Shuto Sales & Mgmt., LLC.

Waikiki 5 Million Dollar Sidewalk Repairs

According to “Hawaii News Now“, at www.hawaiinewsnow.com, “The impact on Waikiki’s main street spans large areas of Kalakaua avenue where signs redirect foot traffic and heavy equipment digs into huge sections of sidewalk.”

“‘A lot of the old tile was heaving and breaking,’ Kaikor Construction Co.  president Steve Baginski said.”

“The old tiles are being removed and replaced with sturdier stone tiles. The city said so far the job’s on pace to finish at the end of September, a month before the APEC summit arrives.”

“Every day on the job is an adventure in the unforeseen.”

It’s Aloha Friday Again:  Sunset on the Beach Moviesdiamond head and outrigger canoe

I just ran across a great website giving tons of information about Sunset on the Beach Movies, at www.sunsetonthebeach.net.

According to their website:  “Sunset on the beach is a FREE movie shown on a huge 30 foot screen. The movies occur on the weekends and feature quality films for the whole family to enjoy. And as the event title suggests, the 30 foot screen is on the beach.”

Waikiki Beach Sand to be Replensihed

Waikiki Beach Sand to be Replensihedwaikiki beach catamaran

According to to KHON News online at www.KHON2.com, “When you look offshore of Waikiki you see surf — the state sees sand — 24,000 cubic yards of it that will be pumped up and onto a 1,700 foot stretch of Waikiki beach from the Duke Kahanamoku statue up just past the Royal Hawaiian.”

“We must take care of these beaches that are so important to us economically, socially, culturally,” said William Aila, director of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.

Taking care means getting it back to how wide it used to be — at least as far back as 1982. The replenishment will widen this portion of beach by about 37 feet.

‘”We’re going to work with nature to make sure that we have a beach experience for visitors and local people that’s going to be worthy of one of the greatest travel venues in the whole world,” said Gov. Neil Abercrombie.

A similar project — but less than half the size and scope — was done in 2007 on Kuhio Beach.

“We demonstrated that it’s not only possible, it’s very successful,” said Aila.

It’s Aloha Friday Again:  Some Interesting Information about the Ala Wai Canal in Waikiki

According to the “Honolulu Star Advertiser” newspaper, an article recently appeared titiled “Ala Wai a polluted engineering marvel:  The original proposal called for the canal to extend through Kapiolani Park”.

I drive or walk by this picturesque canal almost every day and always knew that it drained what were once swamps in the Waikiki area, even inluding fish ponds used by Native Hawaiians.

According to the article, “The Ala Wai Canal drained the swamps of Waikiki and allowed our $11 billion tourism sector to thrive. It was built in 1926, and the original proposal called for it to continue through Kapiolani Park and meet the sea near the Natatorium.”

Allure Waikiki Condos – Renovations in the Works?

Allure Waikiki Condos – Renovations in the Works?allure waikiki condos

Although this new condo building, Allure Waikiki, located in west Waikiki was just completed a little over a year ago, after buying bought out by a private equity group, I’ve been reading “rumors” concerning planned renovations.

I say “rumored” because I have not been able to verify it through the Allure website or sales office, but have read news reports about it online.

Evidently, not only is the luxury Waikiki condo building, Allure Waikiki, going through some price restructuring, but may be planning a reported $3 million in renovations to help move the remaining 100 or more unsold condo units there.

Renovations could inlude lobby, community rooms, pool deck and the BBQ areas.
