My Favorite Hawaii Kai Marina Front Home Communities: Anchorage

Anchorage, a waterfront community in Hawaii Kail was built in the 1980s. Of the roughly 108 homes located here, most all of them border the water. Most of the homes are large, from roughly 2,100 square feet to more than 4,000 square feet and were built on large 7,000 to 10,000 square foot lots, leaving plenty of room for pools and large lanais.

Most of these marina front homes have a private dock, so boat owners can enjoy easy access to the inner bay and canals as well as to the ocean.

My Favorite Honolulu Neighborhoods: West Marina, in the Hawaii Kai Region

West Marina is a relatively large area of Hawaii Kai bordered by Lunalilo Home Road, Hawaii Kai Drive and Kawaihae Street. Homes here were built in the mid 1960′s and is an eclectic mix of architectural styles and varying sizes of homes. Most homes here were built around the Hawaii Kai Marina with seven fingers of land creating marina front lots with boat docks and easy access to Maunalua Bay and the ocean. Homes can range in size from 1,200 to 3,00 square feet.

In 2002-2003, a developer named Stanford Carr built and completed the Hawaii Kai Peninsula project adding new, high-quality condominiums to this area. Some of the Pensinusla is technically considered to be in West Marina.

My Favorite Honolulu Neighborhoods: Spinnaker Isle, in the Hawaii Kai Region

My Favorite Honolulu Neighborhoods: Spinnaker Isle, in the Hawaii Kai Region

Without question, Spinnaker Isle is one of my favorite waterfront neighborhoods in Hawaii Kai. Consisting of 92 single family homes all located on Kumukahi Place and every home has waterfront footage on the Hawaii Kai Marina with backyards facing the water.

The entrance is off Hawaii Kai Drive and across from access to Hahione Valley, a bridge takes you into the community where the road brances into two long cul-de-sacs. Most of these homes were originally built in 1969, although many have been extensively remodeled and most have boat docks with access to the water from their back yard.

Residents here, as a result, also belong to the Hawaii Kai Marina Association. Of course, if you are a lover of water and the ocean, you can imagine the boats and water toys you can keep at your dock and your waterfront back yard.

If you’re a golfer, you may want to consider Queens Gate. The gated golf community of Queens Gate is on the way from Sandy Beach to Kalama Valley. With 153 homes built in the late 1970′s, most are situated on the Hawaii Kai Golf Course. These homes are larger than average, most over 2,500 square feet in size and were built on lots ranging from 7,000 to 11,000 square feet.

Technically there are two sections to Quuens Gate: Queens Gate 1 and 2 with homes located on just a few streets. In addition to golf, other community amenities include tennis and racquet ball courts and a recreation center.

My Favorite Honolulu Neighborhoods: Peninsula, in the Hawaii Kai Region

Physically located on a peninsula of land and inside a protected harbor of Hawaii Kai is the 590 unit residential complex consisting of detached and attached condominiums and single family homes.

The gated community offers a one-acre community center, a private marina and pedestrian trails. Fourty six acres combines cottages, cluster homes and luxury waterfront residences as well as moderate density townhouses and high density condominiums. With a mix of plantation and cottage style homes as well as a regional craftsman style, the overall architecture is pleasing and well done.

A waterfront pedestrian path links various parts of the community with a community park as well as harbor view points, with lot’s of pocket parks and seating along the way. The first part of the development was built in 2003 and 2004 and is known as Peninsula I and II. Classified as condominium properties, most of the land is jointly owned, managed by a Home Owner’s Association with common maintenance fees. Models are refered to as the Carriage Ways, Executive Residences, The Cottages, The Villas and The Colony. This development also includes detached and attached single family homes, town homes, a few waterfront, a few view homes and even some low-rise buildings.

My Favorite Honolulu Neighborhoods: Hahaione Valley-Lower, in the Hawaii Kai Region

The first valley as you approach Hawaii Kai from the Diamond Head direction is Hahaione Valley. The valley is divided into Lower and Upper Hahaione Valley.

Lower Hahaione Valley offers around 320 homes built in the early 1970′s. A quiet neighborhood, Lower Hahaione offers moderate priced homes and the convenience of a bus route that runs around the valley taking riders to the Park & Ride.

Near the beginning of the valley are several high-rsie condominiums and three town home complexes. Shopping is very close by at the base of the valley.

Mariners Valley is one of the largest neighborhoods in Hawaii Kai with over 650 homes. Most homes in this area were built in the 1970′s, but since the area is relatively flat, most homes do not feature much in the way of views or waterfront. As a result, prices are moderate in this area.
