The Cove Waikiki: Waikiki condo project is set to rise

According to the “Star Advertiser” Honolulu newspaper, “Long-delayed plans for new, low-rise residential condominium units are to come to fruition in March with groundbreaking for The Cove Waikiki on Kaioo Drive, off Hobron Lane.

Plans call for 117 one- and two-bedroom units in three five-story buildings on the 1.6-acre site, with fee-simple prices starting at $350,000.

Acccording to KITV.com, “Honolulu’s newest residential condominium tower is almost ready to open its doors.”

“Pacifica Honolulu held an opening ceremony and blessing Tuesday and residents will soon get their keys to move in.”

“The finishing touches are still being put on Pacifica Honolulu just days before the first residents move in.”

“Those residents include over 120 first time home buyers who were able to get units at reduced rates because they qualified for affordable housing. Others bought at prices starting at $445,000 for a one-bedroom unit. Now all but 19 of the 489 condos have been sold.”

“That is quite a change from two years ago, when the condo project stalled. It looked like it was headed for foreclosure after the housing boom went bust and home buyers backed out.”

According to InsuranceNewsNet.com online, “Ground has been broken for Holomua, a long-delayed 176-unit condominium project at1315 Kalakaua Ave., between Young and Beretania streets.Developer KRC Partners LLC partnered with local housing developerPeter Savio to relaunch sales of the units earlier this year and broke ground at the site Thursday after clearing several financial hurdles.”

“Gov.Neil Abercrombie, top, held up the maile lei during a ceremony asKahu Cordell Kekoa, left,Dave Bierwert,Serge KrivatsyandKaren Seddonwatched. Prices range from$239,900 to $467,700; units have anywhere from 354 square feet to 752 square feet with one or two bedrooms and one or two bathrooms.”

“At least 90 units must be reserved forHawaiiresidents who intend to live in the unit and who earn no more than 140 percent of Hono lulu’s median income. Because the developers agreed to make most units affordable, they were allowed to build the tower to a height of 220 feet, or 70 feet above the neighborhood’s normal 150-foot height limit.”
