It’s Aloha Friday Again:  Waikiki Food and Wine Festivalwaikiki statues

I was reading “MidWeek” online at www.midweek.com and was thrilled to hear about the Waikiki Food and Wine Festival scheduled for 9/29-10/1.

This September, Waikiki will be filled with the culinary creations of local and international master chefs, the unique flavors of the Hawaiian Islands, and all the excitement and festivity of what will become a premier date on Hawaii’s events calendar.

The event is the first Hawaii Food & Wine Festival, to be held Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. It is being chaired by Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong, both celebrated chefs, restaurateurs, James Beard Award-winners and familiar faces to local foodies.

With a theme of “Taste Our Love for the Land,” the festival will showcase the best of Hawaii: our chefs, outstanding food, and local produce and products. Besides Yamaguchi and Wong, 30 internationally renowned master chefs will star in the production, including Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto of Morimoto Waikiki and colleagues from throughout the United States, Canada, Singapore, Japan and Australia. Many of the chefs are noted for their sustainable “farm to table” approach to cooking.

Chef Morimoto will kick off the festival Sept. 29 with “Streets of Asia: Morimoto & Friends” at the Waikiki EDITION hotel. The next evening will feature the “Halekulani Master Chefs Gala Dinner Series,” and the final night will be “From Mauka to Makai: Hawaii’s Sustainable Future” at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort and Spa.

According to the “Honolulu Star Advertiser” newspaper, “A bike rental program to promote an active lifestyle and reduce traffic will officially launch on Friday in Kailua.”

“Hawaii B-cycle is the first program of its kind in the state, and part of a $100,000 pilot project of the state Department of Health’s Healthy Hawaii Initiative. Although the official launch takes place Friday, dozens of riders already have used the bikes over the past couple of weeks.”

Honolulu Gambling Bill Dies Again

Some say “yay”…..others disappointed.

According to the “Hawaii Reporter“, “Senate Bill 1247 proposed creation of a gambling casino in Waikiki. It died today but one of its backers, lobbyist John Radcliffe, said it is sure to rise again in the future.”

“The bill began life as a measure to change management of the Aloha Tower Market Place and had nothing to do with gambling or casinos. But in the eleventh hour of the legislative session attempts were made to transform the measure into a proposal that legalized gambling in the Islands.”

It’s Aloha Friday: Ilikai Hotel and Condos, Ilikai Marina Condos and New Edition Hotel Share the Benefits of New “Moroimoto’s” Restaurant

haleconia

I love watching the Food Channel on TV and especially enjoy the “Iron Chef” television show, where Masaharu Morimoto is one of the featured Iron Chefs.  I’m even more excited that Morimoto has opened his own signature restaurant, Morimoto’s, just a few blocks from where I live and work in west Waikiki, Honolulu.

And, what’s exciting for the real estate scene in Waikiki is that this fabulously decorated and designed restaurant is a wonderful new addition to the Ilikai Apartments condominium building, the Ilikai Marina Condo Building and the Marriott’s New Edition Hotel, all adjoining properties.

I haven’t had a chance to eat at “Morimoto’s” yet, but I’m really looking forward to it.
